What is Rotary
Rotary is an organization of
business and professional leaders united worldwide, who provide humanitarian
service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build
goodwill and peace in the world.
There are approximately 1.2 million Rotarians, members of more than 29,000
Rotary clubs in 161 countries.
The Object of Rotary is to
encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and,
in particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for
service;
SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the
recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of
each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each
Rotarian's personal, business and community life;
FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding,
goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional
persons united in the ideal of service.

Rotary International is one of the world's largest
service organisations.
An important distinction between Rotary and other
organisations is that membership in Rotary is by invitation.
Rotary clubs invite individuals to join and become members.
Prospective members must: hold or be retired from a
professional, proprietary, executive, or managerial position, or community
project participation requirements; live or work within the locality of the club
or the surrounding area.
Members must have the capacity to meet the club's
weekly attendance.
Membership in Rotary offers a number of
